When Nottingham glam-rock band The Dandylions set out to make a bold visual impact for their anthem Legendary Force, they approached me—Jasmin Issaka, a Manchester-based freelance illustrator and psychedelic visual artist—to bring their sound to life through animated storytelling.
Working closely with band leader Daryl Ward, we built the music video from the ground up. From storyboarding and character design to plot development, every visual element was infused with the band’s glam-rock flair and my signature 60s/70s retro psychedelic illustration style. The video also proudly spotlighted Nottingham’s local landmarks and scenery, paying homage to the city’s creative spirit.
As one of my first full animation projects, this was an exciting challenge that pushed me to explore new creative tools and workflows. I used a range of professional creative software including Adobe Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Premiere Pro to craft a surreal, high-energy animated video that captured the band’s theatrical vibe. The experience not only expanded my technical skills, but also opened up new possibilities for how I can bring illustration to life through animation.
