David Hockney: An Artist Who Sees the Beauty in Everything

Hockney’s philosophy is simple but profound: art is for everyone, and beauty is all around us if we take the time to look. Whether it’s the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales or the light filtering through a window, Hockney’s work is a celebration of seeing.

One of the things I admire most about him is his curiosity. Hockney doesn’t shy away from new tools or techniques—he’s embraced everything from Polaroids and fax machines to the iPad as a way to create. His belief that art evolves with technology resonates deeply with me as a digital illustrator and graphic designer.

Finding Inspiration in Hockney’s Landscapes

Hockney’s landscapes, in particular, strike a chord with me. He has this incredible ability to capture a sense of place and atmosphere, whether it’s a quiet lane in Yorkshire or the grandeur of Yosemite National Park. As someone who loves illustrating cities, especially my own home of Manchester, I see so many parallels between his approach and my own. Like Hockney, I’m drawn to colour, light, and the small, often-overlooked details that make a place special.
