Preserve Your Memories: A Simon & Garfunkel Journey.

Sometimes, the best illustration projects and creative collaborations happen across oceans. That was the case when I had the pleasure of working with the brilliant musician Michael Jacob Rinzel, who’s based across the pond in the U.S. Despite the time zone gap, we found a delightful rhythm—balancing creative conversations between our mornings and evenings to shape something truly special.
Michael first discovered my work online and was drawn to my vibrantly colourful, psychedelic illustration style, and unique retro 70s and 60s poster aesthetic—the perfect fit for the nostalgic, heartfelt tribute he was crafting for Simon & Garfunkel. What also sealed the deal was the mutual love of music. As a fellow musician, I understood the emotional layers behind his project, and that shared connection laid the foundation for a rich, inspired collaboration.

We began with discussing his initial ideas: a single album cover that included key references to Simone & Garfunkel. Bleecker Street in New York. Animals; Orangutang, Zebra, Gazelle, Elephant and Giraffe —each meant to symbolise elements of Simon & Garfunkel’s music. As I sketched each creature, I found myself infusing them with character, quirks, and emotion. These animals slowly became more than just symbols. They started to embody moments in Michael’s musical journey—visual companions echoing the highs, nuances, and storytelling found in his sound.

Through open, energised communication and a shared passion for art and music, the project naturally evolved into a sequential visual story that spanned multiple albums. What was supposed to be a one-off piece grew into a year-long visual journey—a creative odyssey that I had the absolute joy of illustrating.
Michael was a dream to work with. His passion for the project, his openness to creative dialogue, and his clarity of vision made the entire process a true pleasure. When someone is as excited about bringing an idea to life as you are, it creates the perfect space for creativity to thrive.

If you have a project close to your heart that needs a bold, soulful, and visually striking touch, I’d love to help bring your passion visually to life.
